ignite your Facebook Page

Page Tabs powered by ignite

Since its beginning, Facebook has continuously implemented changes to its platform, sometimes to the chagrin of users. I won't bore you with details about which you're already aware, but to summarize: Users become accustomed to functionality and sometimes the Facebook team forgets that people are people, prone to appreciate tools they needn't relearn every third month. Most neglected among this user group are small businesses that use Facebook to communicate with loyal Likers and support brand messaging. But often the team in Palo Alto implements a change that helps improve the relationship between a brand and its Likedom.

Case in point: Earlier this year, the social network discontinued support for traditional custom Page Tabs that many small businesses relied upon to create a link between the network and their own web presences. Facebook replaced the functionality with something much smarter, iFrames that draw content from elsewhere on the Internet. What's the big diff? Consider the old method a costly and inflexible system, a hard-coded page that only a person with some Facebook Development skills could build and manage. An iFrame is like a widow through which different types of Web media can be displayed, but hosted elsewhere.

Still unsure how this benefits small business?

Consider yourself the proprietor of a small business with a self-managed website that contains a list of products. Your product list also appears on a Facebook Page Tab. Before the change, you would have to update the product list on your website and work with a skilled developer to update Facebook. With the iFrame in place, you can update the product list at your site and through the iFrame the update can appear on the page tab. Or maybe you quickly want to promo a product or service with more umpf than a simple status update. You now have the option to quickly build the promo. We jumped on board.

Monday we launched our first iFrame-based Facebook Page Tab. Check it out!

The new page is built and managed on our easy to use, quick to implement ignite content management framework, the same suite of tools Space2Burn clients already use to manage their websites. This is where things get interesting. If you already have a site built on ignite, we can set up a Facebook Page Tab that uses the content you've already created. If you don't have an ignite-based website, we can work with you to implement a strategy that utilizes an iFrame to simplify your workload or otherwise interact with the content you already have. We'd really like to do more Page Tabs soon, because, if fruitfully planned, they can drive traffic from Facebook to a website and hopefully be used to build business.
